Gummy Bear Infused Rainbow Bread
A vibrant, chewy bread that tastes like a rainbow and is packed with molten gummy bear goodness. A true fantasy bake!
Prep: 2 hours (includes rising time for rainbows to form)
Cook: 35 minutes of pure fantasy
Serves: 1 magical loaf
Ingredients
- 1 cup Warm Water (105-115°F, for awakening the yeast gnomes)
- 2 1/4 tsp Active Dry Yeast (1 packet of gnome powder)
- 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar (for sweetening the rainbow)
- 1 tsp Salt (to balance the mythical flavors)
- 1 Large Egg, slightly beaten (from a phoenix, if possible)
- 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter, melted (liquid gold)
- 3 - 3 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour (plus more for dusting clouds)
- 1 1/2 cups Gummy Bears, assorted colors (the more, the merrier the myth)
- Food Coloring: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple (unicorn tears)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and 1 tsp of sugar in warm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy (the gnomes are awake!).
- Add remaining sugar, salt, egg, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.
- Gradually add 3 cups of flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
- Knead for 6-8 minutes, adding more flour as needed, until dough is smooth and elastic. This is where the magic takes shape.
- Divide dough into 6 equal portions. Knead a few drops of a different food coloring into each portion until evenly colored. You now have six rainbow dough balls!
- Lightly grease a large bowl. Place one dough ball in the bowl, turning to grease all sides. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size. Repeat for all colored doughs, or rise them together if your bowl is large enough for a rainbow party.
- Punch down each risen dough. On a lightly floured surface, roll each colored dough into a rectangle (approx 12x4 inches).
- Sprinkle 1/4 cup of gummy bears over one rectangle. Layer another colored rectangle on top, sprinkle with gummy bears. Repeat until all dough rectangles are stacked, with gummy bears between each layer. Gently press the stack together.
- Carefully roll the stacked dough into a log shape, like a rainbow serpent. Place in a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise again in a warm place for 30-45 minutes, or until nearly doubled.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and bread sounds hollow when tapped. If it browns too quickly, tent with foil.
- Let cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing. Witness the molten gummy bear rainbow!
